A 26-year-old man accused of murdering a trans woman in Greater Noida’s Tugalpur village was arrested following an encounter near the Sector 148 Metro line on Tuesday, police said.
Details of the Incident
The accused, identified as Abhishek, also known as Mona or Manav, allegedly killed his partner, Chandni, also known as Manoranjan Sharma. The incident occurred while the two were consuming alcohol. Police stated that Abhishek suspected Chandni of having an illicit relationship with someone, which led to a heated argument. In a fit of rage, he smashed her head against a wall, resulting in her death.
Discovery of the Body
On May 24, Chandni’s body was discovered under suspicious circumstances in her rented house in Tugalpur village, where the couple had lived together for several years. The body bore multiple injury marks, including severe head injuries, which raised suspicions of murder.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Following the discovery, a case was registered under Section 103(1) of the BNS at the Knowledge Park police station. Multiple police teams were formed to identify and apprehend the accused. Acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted Abhishek near the road leading to the Sector 148 Metro line on Tuesday. When police signaled him to stop, he allegedly opened fire on the officers. The police retaliated in self-defense, and Abhishek sustained a bullet injury in the exchange. He was subsequently admitted to a hospital for treatment.
Seizure and Criminal History
A country-made pistol, one empty cartridge, and one live .315 bore cartridge were recovered from his possession. Police are also verifying his criminal history.
Confession and Evidence
During interrogation, Abhishek confessed that he and Chandni were drinking together on Sunday night when a heated argument erupted after she allegedly abused him. Enraged, he attacked her, leading to her death. He then slept beside the body before fleeing in the morning.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Santosh Kumar said that evidence collected from the scene played a crucial role in tracing the accused. He added that further legal action is being taken, and an autopsy report is pending.
