Punjab Murder Accused Apprehended at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Railway Station
In a significant breakthrough, the city crime branch of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, in a coordinated operation with the railway police, successfully arrested a Punjab-based murder accused at the city railway station. The arrest occurred as the suspect arrived by train, allegedly attempting to evade capture in connection with the brutal killing of a 60-year-old woman in Patiala last month.
Details of the Arrested Accused
Police have identified the arrested individual as Gurvinder Singh, also known as Goldy, aged 34, from Raungla in the Tripuri area of Patiala district. According to officers, he is the son of the village's sarpanch, adding a layer of local prominence to the case.
Background of the Crime
According to police reports, Goldy and two accomplices allegedly murdered Baljeet Kaur, aged 60, on February 19. The motive is believed to stem from an old enmity. A case was registered at the Tripuri police station under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Following the crime, all three suspects fled and remained absconding, leading the victim's family to refuse her last rites until the culprits were apprehended.
Coordinated Police Operation
On March 8, the Punjab police alerted the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar crime branch that Goldy was traveling to the city aboard the Sachkhand Express. Acting swiftly on this information, crime branch inspector Gajanan Kalyankar coordinated with the railway police. A team led by sub-inspector Abhijeet Chikhlikar was deployed to intercept the suspect.
A trap was meticulously set by railway police inspector Prashant Gambhirrao and his team, resulting in Goldy's arrest. Police commissioner Pravin Pawar stated, "The accused was traced and detained promptly after receiving information from the Punjab police. He was handed over to them following legal procedure."
Legal Proceedings and Transfer
A Punjab police team arrived in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on March 9 and produced the accused before a local court. The court granted a transit remand until March 12. Subsequently, the team took Goldy into custody and departed for Punjab to conduct further investigation into the murder case.
This arrest highlights the effectiveness of inter-state police coordination in tackling serious crimes and bringing fugitives to justice.
