A Nagpur court has sentenced a 42-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a woman. Additional District and Sessions Judge S.H. Gwalani delivered the verdict on Thursday, convicting Roshan Meshram, a resident of Kuhi, under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Details of the Case
The court found Meshram guilty under Sections 376(2)(N), 377, and 506 of the IPC. He was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 25,000. In default of payment, he will serve an additional one year of rigorous imprisonment.
How the Crime Occurred
According to the prosecution, between March 3 and 4, 2024, the accused lured the 28-year-old woman from Sarvashree Nagar by promising her a job at AIIMS Hospital. He then took her to a forest near a lake in Matkazari, where he threatened her and committed the sexual assault.
Investigation and Trial
Following the woman's complaint, the Hudkeshwar Police registered a case and arrested Meshram on March 5, 2024. PSI Mahesh Pandey investigated the case and filed the charge sheet. Advocate Kalpana Pandey appeared as the government prosecutor, while Advocate Bhavana Meshram represented the accused.
The court's decision brings closure to the victim, who endured the trauma of the assault. The sentence underscores the judiciary's commitment to delivering justice in cases of sexual violence.
