Nagpur Hotel Fire Swiftly Contained by Alert Staff, Averting Major Tragedy
A potential disaster was narrowly avoided in Nagpur on Tuesday evening when vigilant employees of a hotel on Tagore Road in Civil Lines acted quickly to control a fire that erupted in the building. The incident took place at 'Oak Ignatia', a structure comprising a basement, ground floor, and four additional storeys, which houses the popular restaurant 'Veggietude' on its first floor.
Timely Response Prevents Escalation
According to fire officer Devendra Shamkule, the blaze is believed to have started in the kitchen's ducting system, resulting in significant smoke damage. Electrical wiring in the affected area was also compromised. At approximately 6:38 PM, staff members noticed smoke emanating from the ducting and immediately utilized fire extinguishers to suppress the flames, effectively stopping the fire from spreading further.
"Their prompt and decisive actions prevented what could have been a severe incident," Shamkule emphasized, praising the employees for their alertness and efficiency.
Details of the Incident and Damage Assessment
The restaurant, which can accommodate around 80 patrons, had employees on site at the time, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. The fire caused damage to the ducting, wiring, and some stored vegetables and raw materials. Initial estimates place the financial loss at approximately Rs70,000.
Authorities have confirmed that the building remains structurally sound, with no major damage beyond the immediate vicinity of the fire. However, the exact cause of the blaze is still under investigation, and further inquiries are ongoing to determine the root of the incident.
