A man in Nagpur has been booked for allegedly assaulting his wife and subjecting her to physical and mental harassment, and subsequently giving her triple talaq after she gave birth to a girl. The man's mother has also been named in the First Information Report (FIR).
Details of the Complaint
According to the complaint filed by the victim, Rukhsar Sheikh, she was married to Imran Rashid Sheikh on May 31, 2024. In August 2025, Rukhsar gave birth to a baby girl. Following the birth, Imran and his mother, Saida, allegedly began harassing her.
Incident of Assault and Triple Talaq
On April 24, Imran allegedly physically assaulted Rukhsar. She subsequently filed a complaint at the Tehsil police station. In her complaint, she further alleged that Imran pronounced triple talaq (instant divorce) on her. Following this, she filed another complaint with the Tehsil police.
Police have registered a case against Imran and his mother under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, along with various other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The investigation is ongoing.
