Nagpur Police Enforces New Year Traffic Curbs: Key Routes Closed from Dec 31
Nagpur New Year Traffic Restrictions: Full List of Closures

Ahead of the New Year 2026 festivities, the Nagpur Police Commissionerate has rolled out a comprehensive traffic regulation plan to manage the anticipated surge of revellers and ensure public safety. The restrictions are designed to prevent accidents and facilitate smooth vehicular movement during the peak celebration hours.

Duration and Scope of Traffic Regulations

The traffic curbs will be actively enforced from 6:00 PM on December 31, 2025, until 6:00 AM on January 1, 2026. This period is strategically chosen as large crowds, especially youth, are expected to throng public spaces and major roads across the city to welcome the new year.

Complete Road Closures and Prohibited Zones

In a significant move, the police have declared a complete prohibition on all types of vehicles on roads leading to the popular Futala Lake area. This ban covers all approach routes, including those from the Telangkhedi Hanuman Temple, Vayusena Nagar, and the Futala settlement itself.

Additionally, traffic flow on West High Court Road between Law College Chowk and Shankarnagar Chowk will be shut down on both sides. The police have noted that the implementation here will be situational, depending on the crowd density.

Major Flyovers to be Shut Down

Several crucial flyovers in Nagpur are slated for a complete closure on both carriageways to manage the flow. The list of affected flyovers includes:

  • Sitabuldi Gowari Flyover
  • Sadar Flyover (covering the Katol Road–Mankapur stretch)
  • LIC to Pili River Flyover
  • Sai Mandir Flyover
  • Mehendibagh Flyover

Police personnel stationed at these locations will have the authority to divert traffic as per real-time requirements to avoid congestion and ensure safety.

Long-Term Diversion Near Kamal Chowk

Separately, the police have announced a more extended diversion for traffic moving from Kamal Chowk towards Pachpaoli Police Station. This rerouting will be in effect for a full month, from December 31, 2025, to January 30, 2026.

Under this plan, vehicles will be required to take a right turn near the compound wall of Kamal Talkies, proceed straight, and then take another right turn in front of Sindhu College before continuing their journey towards Pachpaoli.

The Nagpur Police have urged citizens to cooperate with the personnel on duty, plan their travel in advance, and use alternative routes to avoid inconvenience. The primary aim of these measures is to ensure that New Year celebrations are conducted in a safe and secure environment for all.
