Nagpur Crime Branch Busts Major Ganja Racket, Seizes Rs 2 Lakh Contraband
Nagpur Police Foil Major Ganja Smuggling Attempt

Nagpur Police Thwarts Major Drug Smuggling Operation

In a significant breakthrough, the Nagpur Crime Branch successfully foiled a major attempt to smuggle high-quality ganja into the city. The operation led to the arrest of a 19-year-old peddler who attempted a daring escape by jumping from a moving train near the Motibagh bridge.

The Dramatic Arrest and Seizure

Acting on specific intelligence, a team led by Senior Inspector Sandeep Buwa laid a strategic trap between Kadbi Chowk and Mominpura. The accused, identified as Mohammad Kaif Mohammad Jafar, a resident of Mominpura, was spotted carrying a trolley bag. As police moved in, Kaif attempted to flee by jumping from the slowing train near the outer signal of Nagpur Railway Station. He was swiftly chased and overpowered by the vigilant officers.

Upon searching his luggage, officials discovered approximately 9 kg of premium green ganja, with an estimated street value of Rs 2 lakh. Preliminary investigations reveal that the contraband was sourced from Odisha and transported via Raipur.

Operation Thunder and Ongoing Investigations

This arrest is a key achievement of 'Operation Thunder', the flagship anti-narcotics drive initiated under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Ravinder Singal. The operation was coordinated under the supervision of ACP Abhijit Patil, DCP Rahul Maknikar, and Addl CP Vasant Pardeshi.

During interrogation, Kaif confessed to a well-established modus operandi. He and his accomplice, Anil Patel from Pirbazar in Raipur, who is currently absconding, routinely used trains to transport the narcotics. To avoid security checks inside the station, they would jump off the train at the outer signal. The police believe the seized consignment belongs to a local narcotics kingpin operating near the shrines in the area.

A case has been registered at the Tehsil Police Station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, including 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(B), and 29. Police teams are now conducting a manhunt to apprehend the fugitive, Anil Patel.
