Nagpur Police Forms SIT in Forced Conversion Case

The Nagpur rural police on Thursday constituted a seven-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate a case involving alleged forcible religious conversion, molestation, and attempt to murder of a woman from Kolkata. The incident reportedly occurred at a shrine in Gadeghat, located in the Old Kamptee area.

Details of the Complaint

According to the complaint, the woman had been visiting the shrine frequently. On the night of April 18, she was allegedly forced to convert her religion. When she resisted, the accused allegedly molested her and attempted to kill her. She was kept in confinement but managed to escape and returned to Kolkata, where she lodged a complaint.

Transfer of Case and Formation of SIT

The case was later transferred to the Kanhan police station. Considering the gravity of the matter, Superintendent of Police Harssh A Poddar immediately formed the SIT, led by Additional Superintendent of Police Anil Mhaske.

Arrests Made So Far

So far, three persons have been arrested in connection with the case. The accused include Tanviruddin Kalimuddin, 52, and Mustafizuddin Tanviruddin, 24, both residents of the shrine in Gadeghat, and Tejas Khobragade, 24, from New Khalasi Line, Kamptee.

Further investigations are underway as the SIT delves deeper into the matter.
