Nagpur Road Rage Incident Leads to Fatal Altercation and Arrest
A tragic road rage incident in Nagpur has resulted in the death of a local resident and the arrest of a 28-year-old competitive exam aspirant. The event occurred in the New Khalashi Line area of Kamptee on Tuesday, marking the second murder reported in Kamptee within a mere 48-hour period.
Details of the Fatal Confrontation
The incident reportedly began when Ravi Ambutalewar, a flex printing businessman who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, was traveling in a car with his friend, Mohnish Ambatkar. They were on their way to meet Ambatkar's father when they encountered Akshay Gedam walking with his family approximately 50 metres from his residence.
According to police sources, Ambutalewar became upset as Gedam and his family were blocking the narrow lane. He asked them to move aside to allow the car to pass. The situation quickly escalated when Ambutalewar allegedly began abusing Gedam verbally.
Escalation and Tragic Outcome
In the ensuing altercation, Gedam allegedly grabbed Ambutalewar by the neck, pinned him against the bonnet of the car, and punched him. Ambutalewar collapsed on the road and was rushed to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Initially, Old Kamptee police registered a case of accidental death, as preliminary findings suggested that the injuries might have resulted from a fall rather than a direct assault. However, following an autopsy conducted at Mayo Hospital, doctors indicated that constriction of the neck along with head injuries were the cause of death.
Investigation and Arrest
Based on the forensic report, police registered a murder case and arrested Akshay Gedam. The probe is being conducted under the supervision of Zonal DCP Sandeep Pakhale. This development highlights the serious consequences of road rage and the importance of thorough police investigation in such cases.
Background of the Deceased
Sources stated that Ambutalewar had a history of alcohol addiction. His wife had reportedly separated from him in recent months due to his alcohol addiction, and Ambutalewar had previously attempted self-harm. This background adds a layer of complexity to the tragic incident, underscoring personal struggles that may have contributed to the confrontation.
