Nagpur Teen's Remorseless Behavior Stuns Police in Friend's Murder Case
The city police in Nagpur have been left utterly stunned by the remorseless and nonchalant behavior displayed by 19-year-old Jay Yadav, the prime accused in the brutal murder of his 14-year-old best friend, Atharva Nanore. Currently held in police custody remand for five days along with accomplices Kunal Shahu and Ayush Shahu, Jay's demeanor inside the lock-up has baffled investigators handling this harrowing case.
Disturbing Calmness and Deceptive Tactics
According to senior officers involved in the investigation, Jay Yadav has shown a complete lack of remorse following his alleged first crime—the murder of a close friend. "He is disturbingly calm and aloof, traits not even seen in hardened criminals," remarked one officer. During interrogation, Jay exhibited surprising calmness and repeatedly misled police, furnishing as many as four different stories that left investigators puzzled until he eventually named the Shahu brothers, who later confessed to their roles.
An officer added, "Jay nearly misled cops to implicate someone else entirely, handling the interrogation like a seasoned criminal until the Shahus spilled the beans." This deceptive behavior has compounded the shock among law enforcement, highlighting the accused's calculated approach to the crime and its aftermath.
Details of the Botched Ransom Plot
The murder occurred on April 2, in what police describe as a botched ransom plot. Allegedly, Jay Yadav watched without emotion as Kunal Shahu strangled Atharva, and later assisted in disposing of the body. In a chilling twist, after the murder, Jay returned to the Gittikhadan area, joined Atharva's family in searching for the missing boy, pasted missing posters, and even participated in local protests demanding justice for his friend—all while concealing his involvement.
Accomplices' Varying Reactions
Kunal Shahu has been described as equally remorseless and emotionless during questioning, mirroring Jay's unsettling demeanor. In contrast, Ayush Shahu has shown some signs of repentance during interrogation. He told police that he was unaware of the murder plan, though he admitted to knowledge of the kidnapping, indicating a possible lesser role or late involvement in the crime.
Investigation Progress and Handover
On Tuesday, the case was officially handed over to ACP Suhas Jagtap of the Sadar division, who has now taken charge of the investigation. Meanwhile, the Gittikhadan police team continues to work diligently to collect further evidence. Key efforts include confiscating the vehicle used in the crime, which is expected to provide crucial forensic insights into the events of that fateful day.
As the probe deepens, authorities remain focused on unraveling the full extent of this tragic incident, with the accused's remorseless behavior adding a layer of complexity to an already distressing case.
