Nagpur Woman Files Dowry Harassment Complaint, Husband and In-Laws Arrested
A distressing case of alleged dowry harassment has emerged in Nagpur, where a 31-year-old woman has accused her husband and his family members of prolonged physical and mental torture over dowry demands. The Gittikhadan police have arrested the accused following a formal complaint.
Details of the Allegations and Arrest
According to the complaint filed by Sonali Lal, a resident of Ranchi currently staying in Nagpur, she married Ashish Lal on May 30, 2023. Soon after the wedding, she claims she was subjected to continuous harassment by her husband and his family. Police officials confirmed that based on her complaint, a case has been registered against her husband, mother-in-law Usha Lal (55), father-in-law Ajay Lal (60), and sister-in-law Swati Lal (32). All the accused are natives of Morabadi in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
The case has been filed under relevant sections pertaining to dowry harassment and cruelty. Authorities are conducting a thorough probe to verify the allegations made by the complainant.
Severe Dowry Demands and Alleged Torture
In her detailed complaint, Sonali Lal alleged that between May 2023 and November 2025, the accused repeatedly taunted and abused her for bringing insufficient dowry. This occurred despite her family having spent approximately 90 lakh on the wedding expenses. The harassment escalated when the family demanded an additional 44 lakh in cash along with a car.
When these demands were not met, the woman alleges she was subjected to both mental and physical torture. The accused also verbally abused her parents, adding to her distress. The situation became so unbearable that she was forced to leave her matrimonial home after being threatened with severe consequences if she failed to arrange the demanded amount.

The Gittikhadan police have taken swift action by arresting the accused based on the serious nature of the allegations.
