Nagpur Sanitation Worker Dies in Tragic Garbage Truck Accident
A sanitation worker lost his life in a horrific accident early Sunday morning in Nagpur. The incident occurred at Budhwar Bazar near Kamla Nehru College when a garbage collection vehicle malfunctioned.
Hydraulic System Failure Leads to Fatal Collapse
According to police and eyewitness accounts, the vehicle's hydraulic lifting mechanism developed a critical fault during operation. Siddharth Ghodge, a 35-year-old labourer-cum-driver, went behind the truck to investigate the problem.
Tragically, the loaded rear section of the vehicle suddenly collapsed under its own weight. The massive structure crushed Ghodge beneath it, causing catastrophic injuries.
Medical Efforts Prove Futile
Emergency services rushed Ghodge to the Government Medical College and Hospital trauma care centre. Senior doctors reported he arrived in a gasping condition with severe multiple injuries.
"The patient suffered extensive head trauma, eye injuries, nasal bleeding, and blunt chest damage," a GMCH doctor explained. "Despite aggressive resuscitation attempts by our surgery department, we could not save him."
Workers Protest Demanding Justice and Safety
The fatal accident sparked immediate outrage among sanitation workers. Between 300 and 500 workers and supporters gathered outside Sakkardara police station, voicing their anger through loud protests.
The demonstrators presented three clear demands:
- Strict legal action against those responsible for the accident
- Adequate financial compensation for Ghodge's grieving family
- Enhanced safety measures for all solid waste management workers
The protest significantly delayed the process of moving Ghodge's body for autopsy. Authorities eventually postponed the procedure until Monday.
Family Left Devastated
Siddharth Ghodge resided in Taj Nagar and worked for a private agency handling solid waste management at the Bhandewadi dumping yard. Police confirmed he was the sole earning member of his family.
Ghodge leaves behind his mother, wife, and two young daughters. Colleagues described him as a dedicated worker supporting his entire household.
Official Response and Investigation
Law enforcement authorities have registered a case of accidental death. Police officials stated the involved vehicle will undergo thorough mechanical inspection to determine the exact cause of the hydraulic system failure.
The sanitation worker community has issued a stern warning. They threaten to halt all work operations unless their safety concerns receive proper attention and their demands for justice are met.
