Kolkata: Avijit Chatterjee, the son of Naihati Municipal Chairman Ashok Chatterjee, was arrested on Saturday on multiple serious charges. These include attempted murder, rape, extortion, criminal intimidation, illegal possession of arms, and offences under the Arms Act and Explosives Act.
Court Appearance and Protests
Earlier, he was produced before the Barrackpore Sub-Divisional Court on Friday. Tension erupted outside the court premises as supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and local residents staged a protest. Angry demonstrators allegedly hurled eggs and shoes at Chatterjee while he was being escorted to court by police.
