Nashik Dam Tragedy: Four Drown, Including Pregnant Woman
A tragic incident occurred at the Kashyapi Dam, located about 50 km from Nashik along the Nashik-Harsul Road, on Tuesday evening. A couple and two teenage neighbor boys lost their lives after drowning in the dam waters.
Victims Identified
The deceased have been identified as Sachin Thombre (30), his wife Rohini (25), and two brothers from their neighborhood, Ketan Pawar (16) and Kaushal Pawar (14). All were residents of Makhmalabad, Nashik. In a heartbreaking revelation, police confirmed that Rohini Thombre was seven months pregnant.
Sequence of Events
The couple, along with their three-year-old daughter and the two neighbor boys, had gone for an outing to the dam on Tuesday. They arrived around 5 pm, parked their car by the roadside, and walked 300-400 meters down to the water's edge. After having snacks, one of them entered the water. Unable to judge the depth, he began to drown. The other three rushed in to save him, one after another, but were also swept away.
The couple's three-year-old daughter remained safe on the bank. When she started crying after seeing her parents disappear, a woman at a distance heard her and asked about her parents. The toddler pointed toward the dam water. The woman alerted a local restaurant owner, who contacted the village Police Patil, who then informed the Harsul Police.
Rescue Operation
Assistant Police Inspector Jeevan Borse of Harsul Police Station stated that he quickly mobilized local swimmers from the village and launched a rescue operation. By 7 pm, all four bodies were recovered and transported to the Nashik Civil Hospital.
Police have repeatedly warned people about the deceptive depth of the dam. "We have put up warning boards and repeatedly advise people not to enter the water, as the depth is highly deceptive and dangerous," PI Borse added.
