Nashik District Collector Launches Formal Inquiry Into Fatal Road Accident
In response to a devastating road accident that claimed nine lives, including six children, District Collector Ayush Prasad has established a formal inquiry committee to thoroughly investigate the incident. The tragedy occurred in the Dindori Nagar Panchayat area on the night of April 3, when the vehicle carrying the Dargode family from Indore village plunged into an uncovered well along the roadside.
Committee Mandate and Composition
The newly formed committee has been tasked with determining the precise facts surrounding the accident and identifying all contributing factors. The investigation will specifically examine site conditions, work procedures, safety measures implementation, and administrative responsibilities related to the location where the accident occurred.
The inquiry panel is headed by Abhijit Kadam, Chief Officer of the Sinnar Municipal Council, with Yashwant Patil, Executive Engineer of Municipal Administration, serving as co-chairman. Additional committee members include Rekha Vishwakarma, Ravindra Chavan, and Vinod Jagtap, who will collectively conduct the comprehensive investigation.
Investigation Procedures and Timeline
The committee has been directed to visit the accident site personally, record statements from relevant officials and workers, and meticulously examine both the quality of construction work and the implementation of safety regulations at the location. Furthermore, the panel is required to develop concrete recommendations for preventive measures to avoid similar tragedies in the future.
District Collector Ayush Prasad has mandated that the committee submit a detailed report within seven days of its formation. The Dindori Nagar Panchayat has received explicit instructions to provide all necessary documents, records, and cooperation to facilitate the investigation process.
Administrative Oversight and Accountability
The inquiry is being conducted under the direct supervision of Shyam Gosavi, District Joint Commissioner of Municipal Administration. The administration has clearly stated that appropriate action will be taken against any individuals or entities found responsible for lapses in safety protocols or administrative negligence.
Initial observations from the accident site reveal concerning conditions: the concrete road was constructed directly up to the edge of the well, which featured a parapet wall barely one foot high. This minimal barrier was designed primarily to prevent rainwater from entering the well, offering inadequate protection against vehicular accidents.
The tragic incident has highlighted critical infrastructure safety concerns in the region, prompting this urgent administrative response to determine accountability and implement preventive measures for future road safety.
