The Nashik City Police conducted a significant training workshop on Thursday, focusing on preparing investigating officers for the implementation of three major new criminal laws that recently came into effect across India.
Guidance from Judicial Authority
Principal District and Sessions Judge Srichand Jagmalani provided expert guidance to police officers during the special session. The workshop, organized by the city police department, saw comprehensive discussions about the newly enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) that officially came into force on July 1, 2024.
Key Focus Areas of Training
Judge Jagmalani emphasized several critical aspects during his guidance session. He highlighted the importance of enhancing technical capabilities in the investigation process and stressed proper methods for gathering and securing technical evidence. The principal judge also detailed provisions related to arrests under the new laws, ensuring that human rights violations are prevented during law enforcement activities.
Senior police officials present at the workshop expressed confidence that following the guidelines outlined in the new legislation would make investigation procedures more effective and efficient. Judge Jagmalani reinforced this perspective by stating, "It will further increase the trust of the people in the judiciary system."
Comprehensive Participation and Engagement
The workshop featured active participation from the entire police hierarchy in Nashik. Commissioner of Police Sandeep Karnik shared his views during the proceedings, while Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Kirankumar Chavan compered the event. The training session saw attendance from all Deputy Commissioners of Police, Assistant Commissioners of Police, senior police inspectors, and investigating officers from every police station in the city.
An interactive session allowed police officers and constables to pose queries and engage in positive discussions about practical implementation of the new laws. The workshop began with CP Sandeep Karnik felicitating Judge Srichand Jagmalani before his introductory address, marking the significance of judicial-police collaboration in implementing the new legal framework effectively.
