Navi Mumbai Man Detained for Making False Bomb Threat Call While Intoxicated
In a serious incident that triggered a swift police response, a 46-year-old man was detained by the APMC police in Navi Mumbai on Tuesday after he allegedly made a hoax bomb threat call to the police control room helpline. The call, placed around noon, claimed that there would be bomb blasts in Mumbai, causing immediate alarm among authorities.
Accused Traced Through Mobile Tower Location
Senior Inspector Ajay Shinde of the APMC police station provided details on the case. "The accused, identified as Tufan Sheikh, was traced by tracking his mobile tower location," he stated. The call originated from near the Visava hotel in sector 19 of the APMC area, leading police to the suspect's whereabouts.
Given the high sensitivity of the threat, the police did not take any chances. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) was promptly summoned to the scene to assess the situation and ensure public safety. This precautionary measure underscores the seriousness with which such threats are treated, even when they later prove to be false.
Hoax Call Made Under Influence of Alcohol
Upon apprehension, Tufan Sheikh confessed to making the false bomb threat call while under the influence of alcohol. He works as a contract laborer in the APMC area, and his intoxicated state led him to engage in this reckless behavior. "He claimed that under the influence of alcohol, he made a hoax call of bomb blast," Inspector Shinde explained, highlighting the role of substance abuse in the incident.
Legal Actions Taken Against the Accused
The APMC police have taken strict legal action against Sheikh for his actions. He has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for offences including:
- False information
- Public mischief
- Criminal intimidation
In accordance with legal provisions, he was served with a Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) notice and subsequently released. This case serves as a stern warning against making false threats, which not only waste valuable police resources but also create unnecessary panic among the public.
The incident highlights the importance of responsible behavior and the severe consequences of misleading law enforcement agencies, especially in matters of national security and public safety.
