Navi Mumbai Police Take Action Against Engineering Students for Reckless Car Stunt
In a concerning incident highlighting public safety risks, the Nerul police in Navi Mumbai have officially booked four engineering college students for executing a highly dangerous stunt inside a moving vehicle. The reckless act occurred on the busy Nerul railway station road on the evening of March 18, around 5:30 PM, drawing immediate police scrutiny after footage of the event spread widely online.
Viral Video Triggers Police Investigation
The police initiated suo motu cognisance of the offence on Tuesday, March 19, after a video capturing the perilous stunt went viral across social media platforms. In the widely circulated clip, three young men are clearly visible with their upper bodies extended outside the open windows of the moving car, posing a severe risk to themselves and other road users. Authorities swiftly traced the vehicle's owner from its registration number visible in the video, leading to the identification of all individuals involved.
FIR Registered and Driver Detained
Senior Inspector Ajay Kamble of Nerul police station confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the four accused: Nawaz Mulla (21), who was driving the car, along with Aryan Patil (21), Atharva Gaikwad (21), and Kaustubh Rathod (21). Inspector Kamble stated that Mulla has been detained by the police and issued a strict warning regarding his irresponsible behavior. He has also been formally served with a notice mandating his full cooperation in the ongoing police investigation.
The three other students are currently being traced and will face similar legal actions, including detention and official notices, as the probe continues. This case underscores the serious consequences of such reckless stunts, which not only endanger lives but also violate traffic and public safety regulations. The police are emphasizing the importance of responsible behavior on roads to prevent similar incidents in the future.
