Navy Employee in Visakhapatnam Arrested for Gruesome Murder and Dismemberment

A shocking crime has rocked the port city of Visakhapatnam, where a 30-year-old married man working with the Indian Navy was arrested on Monday for the brutal murder and dismemberment of a woman he was having an extramarital affair with. The accused, identified as Chintada Ravindra, allegedly killed 31-year-old Polipalli Mounika at his rented flat in the LV Nagar area of Gajuwaka on Sunday night, while his wife was away visiting her parents.

Details of the Heinous Crime

According to police reports, Ravindra called Mounika to his residence after his wife left. A violent quarrel ensued between them, during which Ravindra smothered Mounika to death with his hands. In a chilling sequence of events, he then reportedly ordered a knife through an online delivery platform and proceeded to dismember the victim's body into three parts.

The accused stored the torso in his refrigerator, packed the legs and hip portion in a trolley bag hidden under his bed, and took the head and limbs to a secluded forested area in Darapalem, Simhachalam. There, he attempted to burn these body parts using petrol before eventually surrendering to authorities.

Police Investigation and Confession

Vizag Police Commissioner Sankhabrata Bagchi revealed that Ravindra, who is posted at INS Dega and hails from Rajam in Vizianagaram district, initially met the victim through a dating application in 2021 when he was single. Their relationship continued even after Ravindra got married in 2024.

"On the night of March 29, the accused called the victim to his residence in Gajuwaka where they quarrelled," Commissioner Bagchi stated. "During this altercation, he is suspected to have suffocated her. Our investigation suggests Mounika may have made financial demands and threatened to expose their relationship to his wife."

In his confession, Ravindra claimed that Mounika had taken approximately 3.5 lakh rupees from him over four years. After committing the crime, he reportedly consulted a friend who advised him to surrender. He then went to the Gajuwaka police station and confessed his actions.

Victim's Family Denies Allegations

The victim's father, Venugopal, vehemently rejected the accused's claims about financial demands. He described his daughter as an independent woman who worked part-time with a bank and an event management firm.

"She never depended on anyone for financial support," Venugopal asserted. "My daughter never told anyone she was in a relationship. We were actively trying to find a suitable match for her. Ravindra trapped my daughter and brutally murdered her because he feared losing his job due to their relationship."

Emotions ran high during a crime scene reconstruction at the accused's residence on Monday afternoon, where the victim's relatives attempted to attack Ravindra. Police have recovered all body parts, including the semi-burnt head from Darapalem and the remaining portions from the accused's flat.

Broader Implications

This gruesome case highlights several disturbing elements:

  • The use of online delivery platforms to obtain tools for criminal acts
  • The extreme measures taken to conceal a crime of passion
  • The tragic consequences of extramarital relationships turning violent
  • The challenges faced by law enforcement in investigating such complex cases

The investigation continues as authorities piece together the complete timeline of events and examine all evidence collected from multiple crime scenes across Visakhapatnam.
