Navy Employee Confesses to Gruesome Murder and Dismemberment in Visakhapatnam
A shocking crime has rocked the port city of Visakhapatnam, where a 30-year-old married man employed with the Indian Navy was arrested on Monday for the brutal murder of a woman he was having an extramarital affair with. The accused, identified as Chintada Ravindra, not only killed the victim but also dismembered her body, storing parts in his refrigerator and disposing of others in a horrific manner.
Details of the Heinous Crime
According to police reports, the gruesome incident unfolded on Sunday night at Ravindra's rented flat in the LV Nagar area of Gajuwaka, Visakhapatnam. While his wife was away visiting her parents, Ravindra invited the 31-year-old victim, Polipalli Mounika, to his residence. A heated argument erupted between them, during which Ravindra allegedly smothered Mounika to death with his hands.
In a chilling turn of events, after the murder, Ravindra reportedly ordered a knife through an online delivery platform. He then proceeded to cut the body into three parts. The torso was placed in the refrigerator at his home, while the legs and hip portion were packed into a trolley bag and hidden under the bed. The head and limbs were taken to a secluded, forested area in Darapalem, Simhachalam, where he burned them using petrol.
Surrender and Police Investigation
Following the crime, Ravindra contacted a friend, who advised him to surrender. He subsequently went to the Gajuwaka police station and confessed to the murder. Upon taking him into custody, police swiftly acted, rushing to his residence to recover the stored body parts from the fridge and under the bed. They also visited the Darapalem site, where they recovered the semi-burnt head of the victim.
Vizag Police Commissioner Sankhabrata Bagchi provided further insights, stating that Ravindra, who is posted at INS Dega and hails from Rajam in Vizianagaram district, met Mounika through a dating app in 2021 when he was single. Their relationship continued even after Ravindra got married in 2024. Bagchi suggested that the quarrel on the night of March 29 may have been triggered by financial demands from Mounika and threats to expose their relationship to his wife.
Confession and Family's Response
In his confession, Ravindra reportedly told police that Mounika had taken around Rs 3.5 lakh from him over four years. However, Mounika's father, Venugopal, vehemently dismissed these allegations. He asserted that his daughter was financially independent, working part-time with a bank and an event management firm, and never disclosed any relationship. Venugopal alleged that Ravindra trapped and murdered Mounika out of fear that she might jeopardize his job.
The emotional turmoil escalated on Monday afternoon during a crime scene reconstruction at Ravindra's residence, where the victim's relatives attempted to attack the accused, highlighting the deep anguish and anger over the tragic loss.
