Visakhapatnam: An Indian Navy officer's wife ended her life by hanging from a ceiling fan at their residence in Visakhapatnam city on Sunday night, police said.
Incident Details
According to Malkapuram police, Dharti Dabhi (36), married to naval officer (Commander rank) Vishal Dabhi, lived at Nandini Building in Naval Park, Scindia, in the city with her husband and their eight-year-old daughter.
On Sunday night, Dharti reportedly locked herself in her room and did not respond when her daughter knocked on the door several times. The girl finally alerted her father, who with the help of neighbours broke open the door and found Dharti hanging from the ceiling fan. They rushed her to naval hospital INHS Kalyani, where doctors declared her brought dead. The body was shifted to the hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Investigation Underway
Malkapuram police, who visited the hospital and examined the body, said they did not find any suspicious injury marks. Police also visited the victim's residence, and seized mobile phones and a duppata for further investigation. Dharti's family from Gujarat are on their way to Vizag.
Police Statement: “We will register a case after recording their statements. We are waiting for the postmortem report, following which we will decide on the course of investigation,” the police said.
Previous Incident
In May 2014, naval officer Lt Commander Sudhakar Bhat's wife Nikhila Bhat (24) jumped from the eighth floor of Naval Officer's residential apartments at Naval Coast Battery on Beach Road in Vizag city. Investigation had revealed that Nikhila was suffering from depression.
