Eight Arrested in District-Wide Anti-Drug Operations
The Nawanshahr police have registered multiple cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested eight individuals in separate operations conducted across the district. The arrests, which include a woman and a 20-year-old, were made during routine patrolling and raids.
Woman Apprehended Near Mahindipur Bridge
In the first case, police arrested Jasvir Kaur, alias Nisha, a resident of Nawanshahr. She allegedly attempted to discard a polythene packet after spotting a police patrol near Mahindipur bridge. The packet was recovered and found to contain six grams of heroin.
Young Suspect Held in Garhshankar
In another operation, Lovpreet, alias Labbu, a 20-year-old resident of Chak Phullu in Garhshankar, was apprehended with three grams of heroin. According to police, the suspect was caught during a routine check.
Two Arrested Near Village Bhan Majara
The police also arrested Ajay Kumar of village Langroya, Nawanshahr, after recovering two grams of heroin from a discarded packet during patrol near village Bhan Majara.
Recovery in Manguwal Village
In a separate case, Yadvir Singh, alias Ghuggi, a resident of Manguwal village under Sadar Banga Police Station, was arrested and seven grams of heroin were recovered from him. The arrest was made during a targeted raid.
Mukandpur Police Nab Two with Nearly 10 Grams
The Mukandpur police arrested two persons — Rinku Kanda and Ravinder Singh, both residents of Ratehra village — after intercepting them near the village veterinary hospital during naka checking. The police recovered 9.83 grams of heroin from their possession, the largest single seizure in these operations.
Two Arrested in Balachaur Operations
In Balachaur, the police arrested Amritpal Singh of Paniali Kalan village after recovering three grams of heroin from his possession. In another operation in Balachaur, Sarbjit Singh of Jagatpur village was arrested with 3.10 grams of heroin during patrol.
Legal Action Taken
Cases under the NDPS Act have been registered against all eight accused. They have been taken into custody and are being produced before the relevant court. The police have stated that investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the contraband.
