The arrest comes as a huge blow during the NBA offseason following Cleveland's playoff campaign. Incident Details
In a shocking incident, Harden was arrested in Houston after police recovered a firearm from his Mercedes sedan on Saturday morning. As reported by the Houston Chronicle, Harden was driving a Mercedes as part of a group of vehicles traveling through downtown Houston around 3:40 a.m. Officers on duty reportedly found a handgun in plain view inside the vehicle's cup holder during an interaction with the player. When asked, Harden allegedly acknowledged ownership of the weapon and was taken into custody on a misdemeanor charge of unlawful carrying of a weapon in a motor vehicle.
The 36-year-old was booked into the Harris County Jail but was released later the same morning on a $100 bond. The charge is a misdemeanor, and based on the case summary, it relates to the handgun not being properly holstered. Court records indicate that Harden is scheduled to appear in court on June 22. Legal authorities have not released additional details regarding the incident. Neither Harden nor his representatives have publicly commented on the matter so far.
Recent Career Moves
The guard joined the Cavaliers recently, ahead of the 2026 NBA trade deadline. Cleveland acquired him from the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for Darius Garland and a second-round pick. This season, Harden had a strong all-around offensive season, driven primarily by his scoring and top-tier playmaking ability. Despite having a player option for the 2026-2027 season, he is expected to remain with the Cavaliers this offseason.
