An NDA delegation met the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) on Tuesday, alleging irregularities in the ongoing special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Karnataka. The delegation submitted a memorandum detailing what they termed a systematic scam aimed at manipulating voter lists ahead of upcoming elections.
Delegation Alleges Systematic Manipulation
The delegation, comprising leaders from BJP and allied parties, claimed that thousands of bogus entries have been added while legitimate voters have been removed without proper scrutiny. They pointed to discrepancies in multiple districts, particularly in urban constituencies where the revision process has been mired in controversy.
“We have evidence of large-scale fraud, including duplication of entries and deletion of genuine voters, especially from minority communities,” said a senior NDA leader who was part of the delegation. “This is a clear attempt to tilt the electoral balance.”
CEC Assures Action
The CEC, after listening to the delegation’s concerns, assured that strict action would be taken against officials found derelict in their duties. “The Commission takes any allegation of electoral malpractice seriously. We will investigate and ensure accountability,” the CEC stated, according to sources present at the meeting.
The Election Commission has initiated a probe into the specific instances raised by the NDA. Officials have been directed to verify the claims and submit a report within two weeks.
Background of the Revision
The special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Karnataka began in June 2026, aiming to update the voter list with additions, deletions, and corrections. The process has been contentious, with opposition parties accusing the ruling party of using administrative machinery to influence the rolls.
Earlier, the Congress party had also raised objections, alleging that the revision was being conducted in a biased manner. The NDA’s complaint adds to the political heat ahead of the 2028 assembly elections.
Impact and Next Steps
Political analysts believe that the credibility of the electoral rolls is crucial for free and fair elections. If the allegations are substantiated, it could lead to a re-revision in affected areas and potential disciplinary action against election officials. The CEC’s assurance is seen as a move to maintain public trust in the electoral process.
The delegation has demanded that the entire revision process be conducted under strict supervision and that any irregularities be rectified before the final publication of the rolls. The Commission has promised to keep all parties informed of the investigation’s progress.
