A late-night drive turned disastrous in Neemuch when a speeding sports utility vehicle (SUV) lost control and ploughed into roadside kiosks, causing significant damage and panic among local residents. The incident occurred near the Cantonment crematorium in the early hours of Saturday.
Timeline of the Neemuch SUV Crash
The accident took place around 12:30 am on Saturday on a road adjoining the Cantonment crematorium. According to Neemuch Superintendent of Police Ankit Jaiswal, the SUV was moving at high speed when the driver suddenly lost control. The vehicle veered off the road, mounted the footpath, and crashed violently into several temporary kiosks set up alongside the garden wall of the crematorium.
Extensive Damage and Driver's Account
The impact of the crash was severe. Three kiosks were completely smashed to pieces. A motorcycle parked at the spot was also badly damaged, along with other materials and belongings kept by the kiosk owners. The force of the collision was so great that it even uprooted a neem tree standing on the footpath.
The SUV was being driven by 25-year-old Pawan, a resident of Neemuch City. He sustained injuries in the violent crash and was promptly admitted to the district hospital for medical treatment. During initial questioning by the police, Pawan stated that the accident occurred because a cow suddenly appeared in front of his vehicle. He claimed he swerved sharply in an attempt to avoid hitting the animal, which caused the SUV to go out of control, leading to the devastating sequence of events.
Police Response and Ongoing Assessment
Local police reached the site soon after receiving information about the crash. Officers conducted a thorough inspection of the scene to piece together the exact circumstances. An official assessment of the total losses caused by the accident is currently underway. The process will determine the monetary value of the damage to the kiosks, the motorcycle, and the other destroyed property.
This incident has once again highlighted the dangers of speeding and unexpected obstacles on city roads, raising concerns about road safety measures in the area.
