Nellore Double Murder Casts Shadow Over Paddy Harvesting Season
A brutal double murder in Andhra Pradesh's Nellore district has sent shockwaves through the local agricultural community, disrupting the crucial paddy harvesting season and heightening tensions among farmers and machine operators. The victims, identified as Venkatesh (29) from Dastagiri mandal and Bala Venkatayya (26) from Sangam mandal, were discovered dead in the agricultural fields of Gandavaram, located within Kodavaluru mandal.
Gruesome Discovery in Agricultural Fields
According to preliminary police reports, the two young men were owners of paddy harvesting machines who had ventured to the fields on Sunday night, carrying diesel to operate their equipment. Unidentified assailants allegedly attacked them, resulting in their deaths, before callously dumping their bodies in the very fields they worked. The incident only came to light after alert locals noticed the corpses and immediately notified authorities.
Law enforcement officials, including Kodavaluru sub-inspector Pratap Kandula and Nellore Rural Deputy Superintendent of Police Ghattamaneni Srinivas, swiftly rushed to the scene to conduct a thorough inspection. The gruesome nature of the killings has instilled widespread panic among the farming community and machine operators across the region, raising serious concerns about safety during this critical agricultural period.
Police Investigate Multiple Motives
Investigators are actively exploring several potential angles behind these horrific murders. One primary line of inquiry focuses on the possibility of old rivalries between the victims and certain individuals. Police officials have indicated that while disputes directly related to paddy harvesting operations cannot be ruled out, personal enmity may have also played a significant role in the crime.
The timing of the murders is particularly alarming, as it coincides with the peak paddy harvesting season, when tensions over machine usage, land access, and financial transactions often run high. This incident has not only disrupted agricultural activities but has also highlighted underlying conflicts within the community that may have escalated to violence.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they intensify their probe into this case that has left the Nellore district reeling. The local police have assured the public that they are deploying additional resources to ensure the safety of farmers and to bring the perpetrators to justice swiftly.
