New Gurgaon Police Chief Sibash Kabiraj Prioritizes Traffic and Cyber Crime
New Gurgaon CP Sibash Kabiraj Targets Traffic, Cyber Crime

Sibash Kabiraj, who assumed office as the new commissioner of police (CP) for Gurgaon on Wednesday, has acknowledged that traffic congestion ranks among the city's most pressing challenges. Already formulating strategies to decongest the city, Kabiraj announced plans to engage with various employers to promote carpooling, an initiative he believes can significantly reduce the number of vehicles on the road and alleviate congestion.

Traffic Management and Safety

Sharing his priorities with TOI, the newly appointed top officer stated, "The central and state governments are already advocating for austerity measures, and I will strive to address the traffic problem at the earliest. Carpooling is a great initiative that can ease the lives of commuters on Gurgaon's busy roads. I will also hold special meetings with the traffic police team to focus on removing bottlenecks and streamlining traffic to curb road accidents."

Combating Cyber Fraud

Discussing other key priorities, Kabiraj emphasized his focus on ensuring maximum arrests in cyber fraud cases, which he described as "another major concern and challenge." He plans to promote the Haryana Police's Abhedya App, which automatically blocks cyber and extortion calls. The new CP replaced Vikas Arora, a 1998-batch IPS officer who was posted as ADGP/administration at police headquarters in Panchkula.

Kabiraj, who previously served as Panchkula commissioner of police with additional charge of ADGP/cyber, elaborated on the rising incidence of cyber fraud across the country. "People need to understand that there is no shortcut to earning money, and they should not fall into such cyber traps. There are several types of cyber frauds, the latest being gold portal frauds. People are eager to make easy money and get lured by fake offers promising high returns for working from home online. There is a great need to raise awareness about the latest scams, and we will focus on that," the CP said, adding that he will ensure a significant increase in arrests of cyber fraudsters to dismantle their networks.

Abhedya App and Women's Safety

Regarding the Haryana Police's latest app, Kabiraj urged all residents to use the Abhedya App, which automatically prevents or blocks fake or scam calls from suspicious numbers before they reach the receiver. "The app was made available on the Play Store for Android phones on Tuesday, and people should use it to save their hard-earned money," he added.

During his tenure as regional passport officer in Chandigarh, the 1999-batch IPS officer constituted a special task force for women or young brides abandoned by their husbands in India during stays abroad, working to cancel such passports. The new CP affirmed that his efforts for women's safety will continue and remain a top concern. "We will prioritize complaints related to crimes against women and take strong legal steps to deal with NRI issues," Kabiraj said, adding that his focus will also include a crackdown on drug smugglers and peddlers.
