Security Forces Prepare Major New Offensive Against Maoist Insurgency
In a significant development following the successful Operation Megaburu in January, where 17 Maoists were eliminated in the Saranda forest of West Singhbhum district, security forces are now mobilizing for a fresh, comprehensive assault aimed at completely dismantling the unlawful extremist outfit.
High-Level Meeting in Chaibasa to Chart Strategy
On Tuesday, CRPF Inspector General Saket Kumar and Special Task Force (STF) Inspector General Anup Birthare visited Chaibasa in West Singhbhum to formulate detailed operational plans. The high-ranking officials chaired a crucial meeting with police and CRPF commanders who are directly leading ground operations against Left Wing Extremism (LWE) in the region.
"The point of discussion was related to the ongoing Naxal operation," stated Superintendent of Police Amit Renu, who declined to provide specific details about the confidential deliberations.
Detailed Planning for a Megaburu-Style Operation
According to informed sources, the meeting extensively discussed launching another major offensive similar to Operation Megaburu. Critical operational aspects were thoroughly examined, including:
- Force strength and necessary reinforcements
- Logistical requirements for sustained operations
- Medical emergency preparedness and evacuation plans
- Seamless coordination between multiple security agencies
- Intelligence sharing and real-time communication protocols
March 2026 Deadline to Eliminate Left Wing Extremism
The strategic planning is directly aligned with the March 2026 deadline established by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to completely eradicate Left Wing Extremism from India. An official familiar with the discussions emphasized the urgency, stating: "With the March 2026 deadline set by the Union home minister, Amit Shah, to eliminate LWE from the country, there is a need to re-strategise our plan and speed up the attack to weed out extremists from the Saranda forest within a given time frame, and the meeting was in tune with that."
Targeting the Misir Besra Squad in Saranda Forest
Security forces have received specific intelligence indicating that the Misir Besra squad is actively operating within the Saranda forest, attempting to revive the armed rebels' foothold in the region. Misir Besra, a prominent Politburo member of the CPI (Maoist) and Eastern Regional Bureau secretary, has been a primary target of security agencies for an extended period.
The upcoming offensive represents a determined effort by security forces to capitalize on their recent success in Operation Megaburu while addressing the persistent threat posed by Maoist elements in the strategically important Saranda forest region of Jharkhand.
