Inter-State Newborn Trafficking Racket Busted in Bahadurgarh, Infant Rescued
In a significant crackdown, police in Bahadurgarh have successfully dismantled an inter-state newborn trafficking racket, leading to the arrest of three suspects, including a woman, and the rescue of a three-day-old infant. The operation has exposed a sophisticated network with deep-rooted connections to hospital insiders, spanning across multiple states from Punjab to Maharashtra.
Details of the Trafficking Operation
Investigations revealed that the accused acquired the newborn from Faridkot in Punjab for approximately Rs 2.25 lakh. They were in the process of selling the infant to a childless couple in Delhi for a staggering Rs 9.25 lakh when police intervened. The probe uncovered the involvement of key individuals linked to hospitals, highlighting a disturbing trend of exploitation within medical facilities.
According to police statements, the kingpin's wife and the daughter of a female accused are both nurses who allegedly played a crucial role in sourcing newborns from hospitals and facilitating their illegal supply. This insider involvement points to systemic vulnerabilities that traffickers have exploited to operate their illicit trade.
Extensive Network and Previous Cases
DCP Mayank Mishra stated that the gang comprises at least five members and maintains an extensive network that stretches from Punjab to Maharashtra. Authorities have already identified at least five cases connected to this syndicate, indicating a large-scale and highly structured operation that has been active for some time.
The arrests were made during a meticulously planned operation led by ACP Pradeep Khatri. Police teams established a checkpoint at the Sector 9 turn in Bahadurgarh, where they intercepted suspicious vehicles and apprehended the accused. During the operation, two vehicles and crucial documents were seized, providing further evidence of the racket's activities.
Targeting Vulnerable Couples via Social Media
The trafficking ring specifically targeted vulnerable childless couples through social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. Using these channels, the accused lured couples with promises of illegal adoption in exchange for exorbitant sums of money, preying on their desperation and emotional distress.
The rescued infant is reported to be in stable condition and is currently under medical supervision. Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover more details about the network and ensure all involved parties are brought to justice.
This bust underscores the ongoing challenges in combating human trafficking and the critical need for vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies and healthcare institutions to protect the most vulnerable members of society.
