Newlywed woman found dead in Muzaffarpur, husband held

A shocking case of suspected dowry death has emerged from Muzaffarpur, where the body of a newly married woman was discovered inside her room, leading to the arrest of her husband. The incident, reported from the Brahmapura police station area on Saturday, has sparked serious allegations of dowry harassment and murder by the victim's grieving family.

Family Alleges Torture and Murder Over Dowry Demands

The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old Khushboo Kumari, who was married just six months ago. Her family has launched a scathing accusation against her husband and in-laws, claiming she was a victim of persistent dowry harassment and physical abuse. The victim's brother stated that the husband's family had demanded a luxury car and a flat in Patna as additional dowry.

According to the family's allegations, a substantial amount of cash and jewellery was already given during the wedding. They claim Rs 51 lakh in cash and jewellery worth Rs 70 lakh were handed over at the time of marriage. The brother further alleged that Khushboo was subjected to continuous torture after marriage and was ultimately murdered as part of a planned conspiracy.

Contradictory Claims and Police Investigation

The victim's father presented a chilling account of the events. He stated that on Saturday night around 9 pm, he received a call from his daughter's father-in-law claiming she had died due to burning. However, when the family rushed to Muzaffarpur within two to three hours, they found a different scene.

"We found that my daughter was already dead. There were no burn marks on her body. Gloves were found under the pillow. We suspect she was strangled to death," the father alleged, directly contradicting the in-laws' initial version.

Police officials confirmed that the body was found lying on the bed. A forensic team visited the spot to collect crucial evidence. The Station House Officer (SHO) of Brahmapura police station stated, "The body has been sent for postmortem. The husband has been detained. Police are investigating the case from all angles."

Legal Action and Ongoing Probe

An FIR has been registered based on a written complaint filed by the victim's family. The police have assured that thorough legal action is being taken. "An FIR has been registered on the basis of a written complaint from the family, and further legal action is being taken. The guilty will not be spared," the SHO affirmed.

The immediate arrest of the husband underscores the seriousness with which the police are treating the family's allegations. The investigation is currently multi-pronged, with authorities examining all possible angles, including the allegations of dowry harassment and the mysterious circumstances surrounding the death.

The post-mortem report is now awaited to ascertain the exact medical cause of death, which will be a pivotal piece of evidence in the case. The community in Muzaffarpur has been left in shock by this tragic incident, which highlights the persistent social evil of dowry demands and the violence it can engender.
