The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has officially named Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Langda as the mastermind behind the deadly Pahalgam terror attack. In its chargesheet filed before a special court, the NIA designated Langda as accused number one, holding him primarily responsible for orchestrating the attack that shook the Kashmir Valley.
Details of the Chargesheet
The NIA's chargesheet, running into several pages, details the conspiracy hatched by Langda and his associates. According to the agency, Langda, a key LeT commander operating from Pakistan, planned the attack with the aim of disrupting peace in the region. The chargesheet names a total of six accused, including Langda, who is currently absconding and believed to be in Pakistan.
Role of Langda
Langda, whose real name is believed to be Mohammad Qasim, has been a long-time operative of the LeT. The NIA claims that he provided logistical support, weapons, and training to the attackers. The agency also stated that Langda used encrypted communication channels to coordinate the attack, making it difficult for security agencies to intercept.
Other Accused
Apart from Langda, the chargesheet includes five other individuals who were involved in the conspiracy. Among them are two local residents who allegedly provided shelter and transportation to the attackers. The NIA has also arrested three individuals who were in direct contact with Langda and facilitated the attack.
Investigation and Evidence
The NIA's investigation, which spanned several months, involved technical surveillance, interrogation of suspects, and analysis of digital evidence. The agency recovered incriminating documents, including maps of the target area and communication records linking the accused to Langda. The chargesheet also highlights the use of social media platforms by the terrorists to radicalize and recruit new members.
Security Concerns
The Pahalgam attack, which claimed the lives of several civilians and security personnel, highlighted the persistent threat of cross-border terrorism. The NIA's chargesheet underscores the need for enhanced surveillance and international cooperation to dismantle terror networks operating from Pakistan.
Legal Proceedings
The special NIA court has taken cognizance of the chargesheet and issued non-bailable warrants against Langda and other absconding accused. The trial is expected to begin soon, with the prosecution relying on a strong evidence base to secure convictions.
The NIA has also sought the assistance of Interpol to track down Langda and bring him to justice. The agency remains committed to ensuring that the mastermind of the Pahalgam attack faces trial in India.
