Nigerian National Arrested in Hyderabad with Cocaine Worth ₹15,000
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, a Nigerian national allegedly involved in drug peddling was arrested in Hyderabad on Friday. The arrest followed a targeted operation by the district task force of the excise department, which acted on specific intelligence about the woman's arrival from Mumbai to sell drugs in the city.
Operation and Seizure Details
Officials maintained surveillance and intercepted the suspect near Paradise shortly after her arrival. According to excise department reports, the woman had traveled to the area in an autorickshaw and was reportedly waiting to deliver a consignment to an unidentified individual. Upon searching her belongings, officers discovered five packets containing a total of 7.5 grams of a white powdery substance.
The substance was later confirmed to be cocaine through preliminary testing. Following this confirmation, the woman was immediately taken into custody. Investigators are now intensively probing the source of the drugs and her broader network to uncover any potential links to larger trafficking operations.
Background and Investigation
Preliminary inquiries have revealed that the accused allegedly procured the cocaine in Mumbai for ₹15,000. She reportedly planned to sell it in Hyderabad at a significantly higher price, aiming to profit from the illicit trade. This case highlights ongoing efforts by authorities to combat drug-related crimes in urban centers.
A formal case has been registered against her under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The NDPS Act is a comprehensive legislation designed to curb drug abuse and trafficking in India, with severe penalties for offenders.
Further investigation is currently underway, with officials focusing on tracing the supply chain and identifying any accomplices involved in this drug peddling network. The arrest underscores the vigilance of Hyderabad's excise department in tackling narcotics distribution and ensuring public safety.
