A devastating auto-rickshaw accident on the Bhangel Elevated Road in Noida resulted in the death of a 40-year-old man and injuries to two other individuals on Saturday night, according to police reports. The incident occurred when the three-wheeler overturned, with authorities attributing the crash to excessive speed and sudden braking by the driver.
Details of the Fatal Accident and Police Investigation
According to the Phase-2 police station investigation, the auto-rickshaw was traveling at high speed when the driver applied brakes abruptly, causing the vehicle to lose control and flip over at a turn on the elevated road. The deceased has been identified as Saghan Sarkar, a resident of West Bengal who lived in Aghapur, Sector 49, and worked at a garment factory in Phase-2. He was reportedly on his way to the factory for night shift duty when the tragedy unfolded.
The injured passengers include Vaijanti Devi, a 45-year-old woman from Darbhanga, Bihar, who currently resides in Kulesra, Surajpur. She was returning home from Phase-2 when the accident occurred. The auto-rickshaw driver, Kamlesh Kumar from Nalanda, Bihar, also sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Police Response and Legal Action
A team from Phase-2 police station promptly arrived at the scene and transported the victims to a nearby hospital. Authorities have seized the auto-rickshaw as evidence, and further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is currently underway.
Broader Context and Safety Concerns
This tragic incident highlights ongoing road safety challenges in urban areas like Noida, where speeding and reckless driving continue to pose significant risks to commuters. The Bhangel Elevated Road, a crucial transportation artery, has witnessed multiple accidents in recent years, raising questions about enforcement of traffic regulations and driver behavior.
Local authorities emphasize the importance of adhering to speed limits and exercising caution, particularly on elevated sections and turns where vehicles are more susceptible to losing control. The arrest of the driver serves as a stark reminder of the legal consequences facing those who engage in negligent driving practices that endanger lives.
As the investigation progresses, police are examining all factors that may have contributed to this preventable tragedy, including vehicle condition, road infrastructure, and driver history. The community mourns the loss of Saghan Sarkar while hoping for the full recovery of the injured passengers.
