A tragic hit-and-run incident claimed the life of a young man in Noida on Thursday morning. The victim, identified as Utpal Kant, a 20-year-old resident of Sahibabad in Ghaziabad, was fatally struck by a truck near the Mahamaya flyover.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The accident occurred in the Dalit Prerna Sthal area near the flyover. According to police, Kant was crossing the area on his two-wheeler when a truck bearing a Rajasthan registration number hit him from behind. The impact was severe, causing Kant to lose control of his bike. He was subsequently crushed under the wheels of the truck and died on the spot.
Eyewitnesses present at the scene reported that the truck was being driven in a reckless and rash manner. In a callous move, the driver abandoned the vehicle at the accident site and fled. Police personnel arrived later, moved the truck and the bike to the side of the road to restore normal traffic flow, and initiated an investigation.
Police Investigation and Family Informed
Authorities confirmed that Kant's family has been informed about the devastating loss. His body was sent for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. The police have stated that efforts are actively underway to trace and apprehend the accused truck driver who remains at large.
Another Serious Accident in Sector 57
This fatal crash follows another serious road accident that took place in Noida just a night before. On Wednesday night, Umang Chauhan, a resident of Khoda Colony, was severely injured after a bus hit him while he was riding his bike near the Sector 57 red light. The collision resulted in Chauhan's right hand being crushed under the tyre of the bus.
Amit Kakran, the in-charge of Sector 58 police station, provided an update on this case. He stated that Chauhan has been admitted to a trauma centre in Delhi for urgent medical treatment and is currently in a critical condition. The police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) and are investigating the circumstances that led to this incident.
These back-to-back accidents have raised serious concerns about road safety and reckless driving on Noida's streets. They highlight the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and heightened public awareness to prevent such preventable tragedies.
