The Noida police have dismantled a gang allegedly involved in the theft of motorcycles and mobile phones, arresting eight individuals, including two juveniles. The arrests were made following a series of coordinated raids across the city, based on intelligence inputs and surveillance. The police recovered several stolen motorcycles and mobile phones valued at lakhs of rupees from the accused.
Details of the Arrests and Recoveries
According to a senior police official, the gang had been active in the Noida and surrounding areas for several months, targeting parked motorcycles and snatching phones from pedestrians. The arrested individuals have been identified as Rajesh, Vikas, Deepak, and others, with the two juveniles being handled separately under juvenile justice procedures. The police recovered 15 stolen motorcycles and 20 mobile phones from their possession, along with tools used for breaking locks and disabling tracking devices.
Modus Operandi of the Gang
The gang operated by identifying poorly secured motorcycles in residential areas, markets, and parking lots. They used master keys and lock cutters to steal the vehicles within minutes. For mobile phones, they would snatch them from unsuspecting victims, often using a two-wheeler to flee quickly. The stolen items were then sold to local fences or dismantled for parts to avoid detection.
“The gang had a well-organized network, with specific members assigned to theft, transportation, and selling of the stolen goods. They maintained a ledger of their operations,” said a police spokesperson. The juveniles were used to carry out thefts in crowded areas to avoid suspicion.
Police Investigation and Action
The police launched a special drive to curb the rising incidents of theft in the city. A dedicated team was formed under the supervision of a senior officer. Through technical surveillance and informer networks, the police traced the gang’s activities. During interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in multiple theft cases across Noida, Greater Noida, and parts of Delhi.
“We have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Juvenile Justice Act. Further investigation is underway to identify other members and recover more stolen property,” the official added. The police have also alerted local residents to use anti-theft devices and report suspicious activities.
Impact on Local Crime
The dismantling of this gang is expected to bring down the theft rate in the region. Residents have expressed relief and thanked the police for their swift action. “I had my bike stolen last month and felt helpless. This news gives me hope that the police are taking crime seriously,” said a local shopkeeper. The police have urged citizens to cooperate by providing any information about such crimes.
