Noida Authority Takes Action After Techie's Tragic Death in Water-Filled Pit
The Noida Authority has terminated a junior engineer's services following the death of a 27-year-old software engineer. Yuvraj Mehta died when his car plunged into a water-filled pit at a construction site in Sector 150. CEO Orders Strict Measures and Safety Review
Noida Authority Chief Executive Officer Lokesh M ordered strict action in the case. He directed the immediate termination of junior engineer Naveen Kumar from the Noida Traffic Cell. The CEO also demanded detailed reports about the allotment and construction activities of developer Lotus.
Authorities have ordered a comprehensive review of safety arrangements at the site. The official statement emphasized that negligence of safety norms at construction sites will not be tolerated. All departments received instructions to re-inspect safety measures at ongoing construction projects across their areas.
The Tragic Incident Details
The accident occurred during the early hours of Saturday, January 16-17, under Knowledge Park Police Station jurisdiction. Yuvraj Mehta's car broke through a drain boundary at the Sector 150 intersection. It fell into an over 20-feet-deep pit filled with water. The pit was dug for the basement of an under-construction building.
Mehta worked with a Gurugram-based company and was returning home from work when the accident happened. Dense fog conditions prevailed at the time of the incident. Police identified the deceased as a resident of Sector-150 in Noida, Gautam Buddh Nagar.
Rescue Operation and Eyewitness Accounts
Rescue teams from multiple agencies worked to recover Mehta's body. The fire department, State Disaster Response Force, National Disaster Response Force and local police all participated in the search operation.

Rajkumar Mehta, the victim's father, shared devastating details about his son's final moments. He told news agencies that his son struggled for two hours trying to save himself.
"My son was crying out for help, asking people to help him," Rajkumar Mehta said. "But most of the crowd was just watching. Some people were making videos. My son struggled for 2 hours to save his life."
The father alleged gross administrative negligence in the case. He claimed timely intervention could have saved his son's life. Rajkumar Mehta criticized officials and staff present at the scene for lacking proper equipment like divers.
"There is negligence on the part of the administration in this entire matter," he stated. The grieving father demanded strict action and improved safety arrangements to prevent similar tragedies.
Police Response and Legal Action
Joint Commissioner of Police Rajeev Narain Mishra provided the police perspective on rescue efforts. He stated that rescue operations began immediately using available resources. Fire brigade ladders, cranes, searchlights and a makeshift boat were all deployed.
Mishra noted that visibility was near zero during the operation due to dense fog. He described the incident as "very tragic" and expressed solidarity with the victim's family.
Police have registered an FIR against two real estate developers based on the family's complaint. Authorities denied allegations of negligence in the rescue operation itself.
