Noida Youths Arrested for Alleged Pakistan-Linked Spying and Sabotage Plot

In a significant security breach, two youths from GB Nagar, Noida, have been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for allegedly spying at the behest of Pakistan-based handlers. The accused, identified as Lokesh (19), also known by aliases Papla, Babu, and Sanju, and Vikas Gehlawat (27), alias Raunak, both residents of Chhapraula village, were apprehended on April 2.

Encrypted Communication and Financial Transactions

Investigators suspect that the duo maintained contact with their handlers through encrypted social media platforms, including Signal, Telegram, and Instagram. This method of communication, designed for privacy, has complicated the probe into their activities. Additionally, seven mobile numbers and three bank accounts linked to the accused are currently under surveillance as authorities work to uncover the full extent of the suspected network.

Officials allege that the accused were paid via QR code transactions, a technique that makes financial tracking particularly challenging. Forensic analysis is now underway to map their contacts, communication patterns, and the scale of the network, aiming to piece together their operational details.

Foiled Sabotage Plot at Lucknow Railway Station

The ATS revealed that the accused had planned a major sabotage operation at Lucknow railway station on April 2, targeting signal systems to cause widespread chaos and disruption. However, timely intervention by the squad led to the foiling of the plot and the arrest of the duo before they could execute their plans.

According to officials, the handlers directed the youths to spread panic by targeting not only railway signals but also government institutions and public infrastructure. Reconnaissance had allegedly been carried out in multiple cities as part of this conspiracy, indicating a broader scope of intended attacks.

Awareness of Terror Network and Additional Crimes

The investigation has further uncovered that both Lokesh and Vikas were fully aware they had joined a terror network operating from across the border. A video recovered during the probe confirms they spoke with their handlers on a conference call, providing concrete evidence of their involvement.

In a related development, agencies have linked the duo to an arson attack in Punjab’s Kiratpur area, where a pickup truck was set on fire alongside other suspects. The gang recorded videos of the arson and sent them to their handlers, aiming to spread fear and insecurity among the public.

Behavioral Changes and Local Intelligence Failures

Officials state that the accused came into contact with the handlers via social media approximately six months ago. During this period, their behavior underwent noticeable changes, with them frequently remaining away from home for several days, raising suspicions among local authorities.

The case has also sparked criticism of local intelligence in GB Nagar for failing to detect suspicious activity. This is particularly concerning given that extremists and wanted criminals have previously been found hiding in residential colonies in the area. Authorities noted that the accused lived in Ram Vihar Colony, Chhapraula, an illegal settlement where tenant verification is poorly enforced, highlighting systemic flaws in law enforcement and community monitoring.
