Noida Youths Arrested for Alleged Pakistan-Linked Spying and Sabotage Plot

In a significant development, two youths from Gautam Buddh Nagar (GB Nagar) have been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on charges of allegedly spying for Pakistan-based handlers. The accused, identified as Lokesh (19), also known by aliases Papla, Babu, and Sanju, and Vikas Gehlawat (27), alias Raunak, both residents of Chhapraula village, were taken into custody on April 2.

Encrypted Communication and Financial Tracking Challenges

Investigators suspect that the duo maintained contact with their handlers through encrypted social media platforms such as Signal, Telegram, and Instagram. This method of communication has posed challenges for authorities in monitoring their activities. Additionally, the accused are believed to have received payments via QR code transactions, complicating financial tracking efforts. Currently, seven mobile numbers and three bank accounts linked to the suspects are under surveillance as part of an ongoing probe to uncover the full extent of the suspected network.

Foiled Sabotage Plot at Lucknow Railway Station

Officials revealed that the accused had planned a major sabotage operation targeting the signal systems at Lucknow railway station on April 2, aiming to cause widespread chaos and disruption. However, the ATS successfully foiled the plot and arrested the duo before they could execute their plans. The investigation indicates that the handlers directed the youths to spread panic by targeting not only railway signals but also government institutions and public infrastructure across multiple cities.

Reconnaissance and Terror Network Involvement

The probe has further uncovered that both Lokesh and Vikas were aware they had joined a terror network operated from across the border. A video recovered during the investigation confirms that they participated in a conference call with their handlers. Authorities also linked them to an arson attack in Punjab’s Kiratpur area, where a pickup truck was set on fire alongside other suspects. The gang recorded videos of the arson and sent them to their handlers to instill fear and insecurity among the public.

Behavioral Changes and Local Intelligence Criticisms

Officials stated that the accused came into contact with the handlers via social media approximately six months ago. During this period, their behavior underwent noticeable changes, including frequent absences from home for several days at a time. The case has sparked criticism of local intelligence in GB Nagar for failing to detect suspicious activities, especially given that extremists and wanted criminals have previously been found hiding in residential colonies. The accused resided in Ram Vihar Colony, Chhapraula, an illegal settlement where tenant verification is poorly enforced, highlighting systemic flaws in law enforcement.

Ongoing Forensic Analysis and Network Mapping

Forensic analysis is currently underway to map the contacts, communication patterns, and scale of the suspected network. This effort aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the operations and prevent future threats. The ATS continues to monitor the situation closely as the investigation progresses.
