In a significant breakthrough, Mangaluru police have successfully arrested an absconding interstate criminal who was evading court proceedings in multiple serious cases. The accused, identified as Abdul Rawoof alias Meese Rawoof (48), was apprehended based on specific intelligence inputs, putting an end to his prolonged run from the law.
A Long Trail of Criminal Cases
Abdul Rawoof, a resident of Manjeshwar in Kerala's Kasaragod district, is a wanted figure with a sprawling criminal record. Police investigations reveal he is facing a staggering total of 25 criminal cases registered across various police stations in two states. The bulk of these, approximately 19 cases, are registered in different police stations within Kasaragod district itself.
His notoriety extends to Karnataka, where one case is filed against him at the Kavoor police station in Mangaluru city. Furthermore, five additional cases are registered at the Konaje police station. The legal actions against him are severe; in the Kavoor case, the court had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant, while for the five Konaje cases, he was declared a proclaimed offender. An arrest warrant from Manjeshwar police station in Kerala adds to the list of pending legal actions.
The Arrest Operation and Criminal Links
The arrest was executed on Tuesday by a dedicated police team. The operation was led by ACP Srikant K, with assistance from ASI Chandrashekhar and other staff members. Acting on a concrete tip-off about the accused's whereabouts, the team moved swiftly to take him into custody.
Police have described Abdul Rawoof as an interstate notorious criminal. He is reported to be an associate of another known criminal from Kerala, Isubu Jiyad alias Jiya, who is based in Uppala Paivalike. This connection underscores the networked nature of his alleged criminal activities spanning state borders.
Legal Proceedings Begin
Following his arrest, Abdul Rawoof was formally handed over to the Kavoor police station to initiate the next phase of legal proceedings. His capture is expected to allow the courts in both Kerala and Karnataka to move forward with the long-pending cases against him. The arrest highlights the coordinated efforts of police forces in tackling criminals who operate across state lines, hoping to evade jurisdiction.
