Pakistani Fugitives Apprehended in Ambala Following Dramatic Jammu Jailbreak

In a significant cross-state police operation, two Pakistani nationals who had escaped from a juvenile observation home in Jammu's RS Pura area on Monday were successfully arrested approximately 400 kilometers away at Ambala Cantonment railway station by the Haryana Special Task Force (STF). The fugitives, identified as 20-year-old Mohammad Sana-Ullah from Jaatala village in Muzaffargarh district of Punjab, Pakistan, and 23-year-old Ahsan Anwar from Mohalla Rashid Park, Buchike village in Nankana Sahib district of Punjab, Pakistan, were subsequently handed over to Jammu & Kashmir Police on Tuesday evening. This swift apprehension occurred less than twenty-four hours after their initial escape from custody.

Violent Escape and Immediate Fallout

The dramatic breakout involved the two Pakistani individuals alongside a local gangster named Karanjit Singh, who is also known by the alias Gugga. During the escape, Karanjit Singh reportedly utilized an illegal pistol to shoot at and injure two police officers. In response to this security breach, six policemen who were deployed at the juvenile home, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), have been suspended due to alleged dereliction of duty. These officers now face a comprehensive departmental probe. Meanwhile, an intensive search operation remains actively underway to locate and capture the fugitive gangster, Karanjit Singh alias Gugga.

Coordinated Police Response and Intelligence Operation

"Shortly after the breakout occurred, an immediate alert was sounded across the entire Jammu region, and detailed messages were promptly transmitted to all neighboring states," stated a senior police officer based in Jammu. Ambala STF Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Aman provided further operational details, explaining that his team received "specific intelligence" regarding the movements of the three fugitives. This critical information led to tightened security measures and enhanced vigil throughout the area.

"After successfully fleeing from Jammu, Karanjit (Gugga) and the two Pakistani nationals first sought refuge with an associate known as Thakur. All four individuals then traveled together to Ambala by bus. During their journey, they also reportedly snatched a two-wheeler vehicle. Upon reaching Ambala, the group strategically split up. Karanjit and Thakur proceeded to an undisclosed location, while Sana-Ullah and Anwar were ultimately apprehended at the Ambala Cantonment railway station," DSP Aman elaborated during his briefing.

Escape Route and Legal Proceedings

The DSP further disclosed that the captured Pakistani duo had formulated a detailed plan to enter Nepal via Uttar Pradesh as part of their strategy to flee the country entirely. The two injured policemen are currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital. Official sources confirmed that a fresh First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the trio under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 109 (attempted murder) and 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging duty), in addition to relevant sections of the Arms Act.

Background of the Pakistani Detainees

Investigative sources revealed that Ahsan Anwar, who was merely sixteen years old at the time, originally crossed over into Indian territory in October 2019 while reportedly playing a game of 'hide and seek' near the border. Despite facing a trial and subsequently receiving a release order on June 30, 2021, Anwar had remained in detention continuously since his initial capture. Mohammad Sana-Ullah was captured in 2021 after illegally crossing the border into India. The precise circumstances surrounding their prolonged detention despite legal proceedings remain under scrutiny as part of the ongoing investigation.
