Palghar Zilla Parishad Employee Faces Serious Charges for Alleged Molestation
A 45-year-old employee of the Palghar Zilla Parishad in Maharashtra has been formally charged for allegedly molesting a 17-year-old girl under the guise of providing information about a scholarship program, according to police statements made on Friday.
Details of the Disturbing Incident
The troubling event unfolded on April 1 when the teenage girl, accompanied by her sister, visited the education department of the Zilla Parishad office. During what should have been a routine interaction about educational opportunities, the staffer reportedly touched her inappropriately while pretending to explain scholarship details.
The young victim demonstrated remarkable courage by resisting the advances and reportedly slapping the accused before immediately rushing to the Palghar police station to file a formal complaint, as confirmed by an official familiar with the case.
Legal Action and Official Response
Authorities have registered a case against the accused under multiple legal provisions:
- The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
- The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act
Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Manoj Ranade has promised a thorough investigation into the alleged incident, though he expressed initial disbelief given the employee's work record. "The said employee is known to be a good worker, and it is difficult to believe such an incident took place. We are awaiting a report from the police," Ranade told reporters during a press briefing.
Commitment to Proper Investigation
The CEO emphasized that the administration would not protect the accused if wrongdoing is established. "We have a Vishaka Committee specifically designed to handle sexual harassment at the workplace, which will look into the matter thoroughly. We will also carry out an internal probe. If any wrongdoing is established, strict action will definitely be taken," he stated firmly.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about safety in government offices and the vulnerability of young people seeking educational assistance. The swift police response and promised investigations demonstrate the seriousness with which authorities are treating these allegations.
