Panchkula: Four Arrested in Kidnapping, Robbery; Two Injured

Panchkula: Police have apprehended four individuals in connection with a kidnapping and robbery case, with two of them sustaining bullet injuries to the leg and subsequently admitted to the civil hospital. The accused include an alleged arms supplier linked to the notorious Rohit Godara gang.

According to police, the two injured suspects opened fire when officers attempted to arrest them. Two accused were initially arrested on June 16. On Wednesday morning, police received a tip-off and traced the remaining two accused to Alipur Industrial Area in Barwala. When officers attempted to apprehend them, the suspects allegedly opened fire at the police. Two bullets reportedly struck the bulletproof jackets of policemen. In retaliatory firing, both accused were shot in the knees and overpowered.

The injured accused have been identified as Yogesh Kumar of Bhiwani and Deepesh Kumar of Charkhi Dadri. Police said Deepesh has cases related to kidnapping and assault registered against him, while Yogesh faces serious charges of organised crime and Arms Act violations. Preliminary investigation revealed Yogesh’s alleged links with the Rohit Godara gang, to whom he is suspected of supplying weapons.

Police recovered a .32-bore pistol, two live cartridges and the black Scorpio used in the crime. The vehicle was allegedly rented from an acquaintance. DCP crime and traffic Amrinder Singh said the two injured accused are undergoing treatment and will be questioned after their discharge from hospital. The two accused arrested earlier have been remanded in two days of police custody.

Police said the incident took place on June 15 when an HMT Pinjore resident was allegedly abducted by four men travelling in a black Scorpio SUV. The victim said he was on his way home on a scooter when the accused stopped him on the pretext of asking for directions. He added that they allegedly threatened him with a knife, forced him into their vehicle and drove him across various locations. The complainant said the accused robbed him of Rs 12,000 cash and a mobile phone. They also used his phone to make online payments, including purchase of fuel and withdrawing money. After keeping him captive for several hours, the accused reportedly abandoned him near Barwala grain market before escaping.
