Panchkula: Police have initiated a major verification and anti-encroachment campaign aimed at bolstering security and curbing illegal settlements across the city. Police commissioner Pankaj Nain directed officials to verify the identities of migrants and other individuals residing in roadside makeshift shelters and unauthorised settlements.
The operation will be carried out in coordination with the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), following which illegal encroachments and unauthorised structures will be removed. Nain emphasized that ensuring the safety and security of Panchkula residents remains the department’s top priority. He stated that living in unauthorised roadside settlements without valid identity documents not only violates the law but also poses a serious security concern.
“All police station heads and field units have been directed to conduct thorough verification of such locations. Anyone found without valid identification or under suspicious circumstances will face legal action,” he said.
The police have been receiving complaints regarding unidentified individuals residing at various locations without verification. Such settlements could potentially become hubs for criminal activities, including drug trafficking, theft and other offences, the police said. Police teams have already begun ground-level verification, and officials expect the operation to be completed within a week. Authorities said the campaign is intended to ensure that Panchkula remains crime-free while preventing illegal encroachments from flourishing in the city.
