Panchkula Police Recover Rs 7 Lakh Temple Theft Items

Panchkula police have successfully solved a temple theft case and recovered gold and silver ornaments valued at nearly Rs 7 lakh. The theft occurred at Shri Venkateswara Swamy Temple located in Sector 12-A. A complaint was lodged at the Sector 14 police station, reporting that gold mangalsutras, a nose ring, silver waist ornaments, and brass crowns were stolen from the temple premises.

Arrest and Investigation

The accused, identified as Mohd Salim, a native of Sambhal district in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested. He was currently residing in a slum near Elante Mall in Chandigarh. During interrogation, Salim allegedly confessed to the crime. He revealed that he first attempted a theft at Parshuram Bhawan in Sector 12-A on the night of May 26 but fled after residents were alerted. Subsequently, he entered the temple around 4 a.m. and made off with the ornaments.

Recovery of Stolen Items

Based on his disclosure, police recovered the stolen items from his residence. The recovered items include gold mangalsutras with chains, a gold nose ring, black-bead mangalsutras with pendants, a silver waist belt, and brass religious ornaments. The police confirmed that the accused has been sent to judicial custody.
