Panipat police have solved the murder of an e-rickshaw driver within 12 hours, arresting five suspects who allegedly killed him over a dispute regarding Rs 50,000. The victim, Sooraj, a resident of Gangaram Colony, was found dead inside a locked office on Tuesday morning.
Arrests and Confessions
The five accused were arrested near the canal in Virat Nagar. They have been identified as Ajit, Mukesh, Sooraj, Raja alias Kala, and Prince, all residents of Devi Nagar. According to SI Vinod, SHO of Old Industrial Area police station, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the murder during interrogation.
Ajit told police that he operated an office from a rented shop in Gangaram Colony, where the deceased also used to spend time. Ajit claimed he had kept Rs 50,000 in the office, which Sooraj took. Despite repeated requests, Sooraj failed to return the money, leading to the fatal attack.
Details of the Incident
On the night of June 29, Ajit, along with his associates Mukesh, Prince, Sooraj, Raja, and others, called the victim to the office. They allegedly assaulted him, tied his hands with a piece of cloth, and poured water into his mouth. When Sooraj lost consciousness, they locked the office and fled. The body was discovered the next morning after police broke open the locks.
The post-mortem examination was conducted, and the body was handed over to the victim's family. A murder case was registered based on a complaint from Madhu, the victim's wife.
Legal Proceedings
All five accused were produced before a court on Wednesday. The court remanded Ajit, Prince, and Raja alias Kala to three days of police custody, while Mukesh and Sooraj were sent to judicial custody, the SHO confirmed.
