Residents of Paprola face severe inconvenience as dug-up roads remain unrepaired

Residents of Paprola town in Kangra district are facing significant hardships due to roads dug up for a Rs 50 crore sewerage project. The work, executed by contractors engaged by the Baijnath-Paprola Municipal Council, involved digging up several roads and lanes for laying sewerage pipelines and constructing chambers. Although the sewerage work has been completed in many areas, the roads have not been repaired, causing immense difficulty for pedestrians, schoolchildren, and motorists.

Monsoon worsens the situation

With the onset of the monsoon season, the damaged road stretches have become muddy and slushy, making movement extremely challenging. Local residents report that roads, drains, tiles, and pavements were excavated months ago, but the contractors have not restored them. Recent rainfall has exacerbated the problem, leading to stagnant water and muddy stretches in several wards, creating safety hazards.

Specific wards severely affected

A road in Ward No. 8, dug up nine months ago, remains in a dilapidated condition. Similarly, in Ward No. 10, roads have been badly damaged due to pipe-laying work. Roads leading to senior secondary schools and the Paprola market have also become difficult to traverse, affecting daily life and commerce.

Local MLA assures action

Local MLA Kishori Lal stated that the authorities have been directed to ensure immediate restoration of all damaged roads. He assured residents that no compromise would be made with the quality of the sewerage project or road repair. Municipal Council Executive Officer Rajeev Verma, holding additional charge, said the Jal Shakti Department has been asked to repair all roads immediately after the sewerage work is completed.

Former councillor demands immediate repairs

Former councillor Anita Sood urged that contractors be directed to repair all roads where work has been completed. She emphasized that public convenience should not be ignored during the execution of development projects. Residents continue to hope for swift action to restore normalcy in their daily lives.
