Paralysed man dies after dog attack in Barabanki

A 56-year-old paralysed man succumbed to injuries after being attacked by a suspected rabid dog in Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki district. The incident occurred on Monday evening when the victim, Mansharam Verma, was alone at home and sleeping on a cot. A stray dog entered the premises and attacked him, inflicting multiple bite and claw injuries across his body.

Unable to Defend Himself

Due to his physical condition, Mansharam could not defend himself or escape the attack. When his sons—Manoj, Rajesh, and Rajkumar—returned home, they found their father bleeding profusely. They immediately took him to a local practitioner who administered first aid.

Medical Treatment and Referral

Thereafter, Mansharam was taken to the Community Health Centre in Deva, where attending physician Dr. Neeraj Grover cleaned the wounds and administered the first dose of the anti-rabies vaccine. Given the seriousness of his condition, he was referred to the District Hospital for advanced treatment on Monday night. However, his condition continued to deteriorate, and he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday night.

Doctor's Statement

Dr. Grover said the victim had sustained multiple wounds across his body. “His one side was paralysed, and the dog had caused numerous injuries by biting and scratching him,” he added.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. The family has alleged negligence on the part of local authorities in controlling stray dogs.
