Patan Minor's Miscarriage Exposes Horrifying Case of Repeated Sexual Abuse
A deeply disturbing case of repeated sexual abuse of a minor girl has come to light in Patan district, Gujarat, after the victim suffered a miscarriage of a 16-week fetus. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community and prompted immediate police action under stringent laws.
Hospital Admission Leads to Tragic Discovery
The girl was admitted to GMERS Medical College and Hospital in Dharpur on the night of March 28 after complaining of severe abdominal pain. Medical officials confirmed that she suffered a miscarriage on March 29, which ultimately revealed her pregnancy and the underlying abuse.
"She suffered a miscarriage on March 29," stated a senior official involved in the case. "The girl did not reveal anything until her admission when the miscarriage occurred. She was pregnant for 16 weeks."
Pattern of Abuse by Family Acquaintance
According to official reports, the alleged perpetrator was a man close to the family who frequently visited their home in a village within Radhanpur taluka. The accused, an adult, lived and worked in a field adjacent to where the victim resided with her mother and five siblings.
An official detailed the exploitation: "The accused often visited their house and allegedly raped her whenever her mother was away at work." The mother worked as a laborer in the fields, leaving the vulnerable girl unprotected during those periods.
Breaking Silence and Legal Action
Following the traumatic miscarriage, the girl eventually broke down and confided in her mother about the repeated sexual assaults. The hospital authorities simultaneously informed the police, leading the mother to file a formal complaint naming the accused individual.
The official added, "Her mother stated in the complaint that she is 10 years old, but we are conducting a medical examination to confirm her age. The family is from a very poor background and they don't have government documents to confirm her age."
Current Condition and Legal Proceedings
Medical authorities have confirmed that the girl is now out of danger and is expected to be discharged from the hospital within a few days. Meanwhile, law enforcement has taken swift action against the accused.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to gather evidence and ensure justice for the victim.
This tragic case highlights the vulnerabilities faced by children in economically disadvantaged situations and underscores the critical importance of community vigilance and robust legal frameworks to protect minors from such horrific abuses.
