Stray Dog Menace: Patiala NGO Seeks Human Rights Panel Intervention
Patiala NGO Demands Human Rights Panel on Stray Dogs

A non-governmental organization in Patiala has escalated its concerns over the growing stray dog problem by seeking intervention from the human rights panel. The NGO, which has been actively working on animal welfare and public safety issues, submitted a formal complaint highlighting the increasing number of stray dog attacks in the city.

Rising Incidents of Attacks

According to the NGO's representation, several residents, including children and the elderly, have been bitten or injured by stray dogs in various localities. The organization claims that the local municipal corporation has failed to implement effective measures to control the stray dog population, leading to a hazardous environment for citizens.

Demand for Immediate Action

The NGO has demanded that the human rights panel direct the Patiala Municipal Corporation to take concrete steps, such as sterilization drives, vaccination campaigns, and safe relocation of aggressive dogs. They argue that the lack of action violates the fundamental right to safety and life under Article 21 of the Constitution.

In its petition, the NGO also cited instances where residents have formed self-help groups to scare away dogs, but these efforts have been insufficient. The organization stressed the need for a coordinated approach involving animal welfare groups, local authorities, and the police.

Human Rights Panel's Role

The human rights panel has acknowledged receipt of the complaint and is expected to review the matter. It may issue notices to the Patiala Municipal Corporation and the district administration seeking responses. Previous petitions on similar issues have led to directives for dog census and sterilization programs.

The NGO hopes that the panel's intervention will expedite the process and ensure the safety of residents while also addressing the welfare of stray dogs humanely.
