Patna Administration and PMC Ramp Up Security and Eco-Friendly Measures for Saraswati Puja
The Patna administration has identified crowd management and law enforcement as top priorities for the upcoming Saraswati Puja festival. On Friday, officials conducted a thorough review of security and regulatory arrangements to ensure a smooth and safe celebration across the city.
Comprehensive Security Review and Directives
Patna District Magistrate Thiyagarajan S M and Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K Sharma led a crucial meeting with sub-divisional officers, police personnel, and block officials. They emphasized strict compliance with safety protocols throughout three distinct phases: pre-event preparation, the festival period itself, and the idol immersion process.
Officials received clear instructions to monitor sensitive locations using advanced technology like drones and CCTV cameras. Quick response teams and medical units will remain on active standby to address any emergencies promptly. The administration has mandated that all puja committees obtain proper licenses, and it has prohibited the installation of idols or the organization of processions without prior permission.
Police forces have been directed to conduct regular foot marches and maintain heightened vigilance at hostels, lodges, and hotels to track any suspicious activities. In a significant move, the district magistrate imposed a complete ban on DJ systems. Loudspeaker use is now restricted to the hours between 6 am and 10 pm, and it must strictly adhere to prescribed decibel limits.
Unauthorized boat operations in rivers during the festival have been banned to prevent accidents and ensure order. National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force teams will be strategically deployed to handle any emergency situations that may arise.
Patna Municipal Corporation's Environmental Initiatives
Simultaneously, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has stepped up its preparations to ensure environmentally safe idol immersion. The corporation is constructing seven artificial ponds at different ghats specifically for Saraswati idol immersion. This initiative aims to prevent pollution of the sacred Ganga River.
The municipal commissioner has directed officials to ensure that all immersions take place only at these designated sites. Violations of this directive will invite legal action and substantial fines, underscoring the administration's commitment to environmental protection.
To promote a plastic-free festival, awareness teams will be deployed at key ghats including Patipul, Minar, Bhadra, Mitan, Law College, Kangan, and Damrahi. These teams will monitor activities closely and actively urge devotees and puja committees to avoid using plastic wrappers, polythene, and other non-biodegradable materials that harm the environment.
